Civil Litigation

Civil litigation comes, mostly unwanted, into the life of a person when they get served with a lawsuit.  Less commonly, it introduces itself when a person files a lawsuit.  Litigation is the actual nuts-and-bolts process of bringing a filed civil action to its conclusion, whatever that may be.

For litigants in propria persona (also known in some courts as pro se litigants) choices range between the unreachable and the ridiculous: on the one hand, the tremendously expensive alternative (as even attorneys recognize among themselves) of paying an attorney to do litigation tasks (and believe me, they very often use paralegals to do these tasks anyway) and trying to do it on your own (this is the "ridiculous" alternative, by the way), which it is almost impossible to do, except in rare cases where the occasional person has actually been schooled in the law.

Until the advent of the paralegal, these were the only choices.
